A Wonderful Vintage Buffalo Pipe Bowl & Stem With Great Patina

  • Vintage Buffalo Pipe Bowl & Stem
  • The pipe bowl, which has been used, sports a standing buffalo facing the bowl
  • It is clearly signed Big Eagle on the bottom. This is the mark of Bill Bryan, a fourth generation pipe maker specializing in buffalo and bear pipes. He is a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Nation. Bill is a descendant of the late Moses Crow, who settled in the area around 1927, working the pipestone quarries
  • The traditional stem fits into the bowl with a thin, neat wrap of sinew around it
  • Around the stem is a simple 2″ wrap of buffalo fur tied with brain tanned elk hide thongs holding a large five layer blue Chevron trade bead
  • The pipe stem is 18″ long
  • The Catlanite bowl is 5 1/2″ long x 2 1/2″ tall
  • fitted together, it measures 22″ long
